Bush
fell off his bike today.
The article includes a great list of all of Bush's slips and falls. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I fell and scraped my face. It happens to Bush all the time. What's up with that?
Michael Moore's new documentary about 9/11 and the Iraq war
just won the REALLY BIG DEAL Palme D'Or award at the
Cannes Film Festival. This increases the chances that this movie will be released before the election, and it's further proof of: a) just how good Michael Moore is, and b)just how much the rest of the world wants to see Bush soundly defeated in November.
Could you live in poverty if you had to? What if you didn't have health insurance? What if you had kids?
Take the
Poverty Tour to see where your money takes you.
By the way, the Poverty Tour assumes their hypothetical family of four *has* health insurance.
Our favorite people in the world, Moveon.org, (2nd favorite, FYI, would be
Air America Radio) are begging
John Kerry to GO BIG.
Click here to sign the petition.Basically, what they're trying to do is to get John Kerry to not run the same boring race that Al Gore did in 2000. Instead, they say, he needs to give people an alternative worth getting excited about.
Here's a quote:
"Throughout his life, John Kerry has made a practice of standing up for bold initiatives to provide health care, protect the environment, and guarantee truth-telling in government. Together, we need to let him know that we want him to be his best, boldest self -- to go big, ask more from us, and power his campaign on the politics of hope and progress."
Now for my rant:
Margaret and I poured everything we had into Howard Dean's campaign because he did exactly what MoveOn.org is asking Kerry to do. We know a LOT of people who did the same...lots of 'em were young people who never gave money or their time to any politician before.
We recently went to a local John Kerry volenteer meeting, however, and there was nothing but lukewarm talk about how they need more money. WHAT THE HELL FOR? If all they're gonna do is go serve big businesses, they can get plenty of dough from big business, and the chump change that I (average Joe) can afford to contribute isn't going to make a bit of difference. Collecting a shitload of money from Mr. Big Business isn't going to win this election, though. Even if it could, it would be within the margin of fraud where Bush's family and friends could easily shift a few votes and put pressure on the supreme court and have 4 more years of illegitimacy.
Howard Dean says that the reason more people don't vote is because they're not given a reason to vote. FUCK YES. Listen to the man, John Kerry. jeez. I'm sick and tired of this "suck-up to the swing voters" shit. The swing voters will vote for someone who stands up to Bush. Why? Because they don't have jobs, and they did before Bush!!!!
Wouldn't it be incredible if, instead of defending his middle-of-the-road positions on just about everything, John Kerry would say "Ya know what? WHAT THE HELL IS THE DEAL WITH THERE BEING POOR PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY WHILE WE'RE SPENDING BILLIONS TO STICK BROOMSTICKS UP THE ASSES OF IRAQI PRISONERS????"
Just my dream. Go sign that petition.
What's that mean?Sometimes you hear a number, a statistic, and you think to yourself "now, that can't be right." The net is full of misinformation, disinformation, and just plain crap, but if you want the quick and dirty on whether campaign slogans are the real deal or just well-cooked spam, you could do worse than visiting these two sites:
Claim vs. Fact from the Center for American Progress and
Factcheck.org from the Annenberg Public Policy Center.
