Political Motel
Tomorrow (April 1) is National "I'm Embarrassed by My President" Day.
Find out more.
Yeehaw!Air America Radio, a liberal talk radio network, went on-air (and on Web) today.
Here's the story.
Listen! This is just what I'm talkin' about with "taking back the language".
Did Chris' last post leave you breathless? Did you mutter "how dare they"? Would you like to
learn more about the proposed rules?Every staff member, volunteer, board member, donor, or fan of politically-oriented non-profit organizations should be concerned about the FEC's proposal.
This administration doesn't give a damn about free speech. Look at
what they did in Iraq.
From the "it can't happen here department" (aka, the "how bad can it get department"):
MoveOn.org is urging people to call their representatives regarding proposed new FEC rules:
"The Republican National Committee is pressing the Federal Election Commission ("FEC") to issue new rules that would shut down groups that dare to communicate with the public in any way critical of President Bush or members of Congress. Incredibly, the FEC has just issued -- for public comment -- proposed rules that would do just that. Any kind of non-profit -- conservative, progressive, labor, religious, secular, social service, charitable, educational, civic participation, issue-oriented, large, and small -- could be affected by these rules."
Go to MoveOn.org to take action. If you're not already signed up to get MoveOn's Action Alerts, please take a second and
do it! Thanks!
We'd like to welcome our first guest editor at Motel's new politics page, John L. John has serious political credentials, which we'll let him tell you about if he so chooses. More importantly, John is a hellofaguy, and we're proud to have him on board with our "kick George Bush's Ass in '04" project.
A couple notes and thoughts:
We have no control over those advertisements over there ---->
Google adwords looks at the content of your site and decides which ads to run based on keywords.
I think it's really funny, though, that people are paying money to advertise George Bush Merchandise and their ads are showing up on our site because we're talking about whipping George Bush's behind or whatever. ha ha ha.
Also, I've been thinking about what the tone of this page should be, and I think that what struck me while looking at other similar websites is that people often play it safe with the words they use...I think this is because the freaky right-wing has mastered the art of giving negative connotations to perfectly good words and so we're all afraid to say "taxes are a good thing" or "I'm liberal" or "I'm educated" or "I've been to other countries".
Although the main purpose of this page is to inform you about positive things that you can do towards the goal of taking back the country, we won't hesitate to say what we're really thinking or to use whatever words are most appropriate -- regardless of the Fox News dictionary. Part of taking our country back is taking our language back.
The presidential race is vital. So is Congress.
Find out who your member of Congress is. You'll need your nine-digit zip code. If you don't have it, you can get it at the
Post Office.Find out who is running in your district.
One of the reasons money has such an undue influence on politics is that too few people are campaign donors. If more of us gave, even in small amounts, candidates might feel less intimidated by the few big donors. You can give to
presidential candidates or your local progressive congressional candidate. Even your local state legislators will need your help.
Are you registered to vote? If you're not, or if you're not sure,
click here!. This is a form that can be used to register to vote in any state.
If you're cool, you can also go to
RockTheVote and do it all right there online! What a great site! Go! now!
Here's our first suggested action: Join MoveOn's call to censure Bush for misleading us:

Welcome to Political Motel.
We've created this area of our site as a way to tell our readers what they can do to help take our country back from the right-wing lunatics and religious fanatics. If you're a right-wing lunatic or religious fanatic, please visit a different part of Motel.
If you're as concerned as we are about what's happening to our country, we hope to provide you with concrete things that you can do to help. We'll also let you know what we've been doing (since a big part of our audience is people who know us or are related to us...you might be interested).
The most important goal right now is to GET RID OF BUSH. If you agree, please check back here regularly and get involved! Thanks,
Chris and Margaret
