I'm not sure when we'll ever post the story of our trip to Iceland, but I wanted to recount one golden moment.
On our trip to see the Golden Circle sites, when we were at Thingvellir, the guide told me that they had tried to start a "cemetary for Iceland's most famous sons and daughters" there. But, he said, it had been a failure.
After a few moments of silence, I asked why.
He looked at me almost as if I should understand, and then said "It's just not an Icelandic thing. People weren't into it."
Here's a picture of me and the guide! He was very cute.

They really need to stop putting Dermot Mulroney in movies. I mean, I might be tempted to see this The Family Stone movie* except that it has him in it and every time I see his weirdly wooden, expressionless mug in the promos I am reminded of how mind-numbingly boring he was in The Wedding Date** and My Best Friend's Wedding***. I am starting a protest right now. Who's with me?
*well, that's a bit of a stretch but I need to claim that to make my point, so don't hold it against me!
** the only reason I saw that movie is that I needed something to do when I was waiting all day in San Francisco to get my passport -- the weather was yucky so that's my excuse for going to see a movie
*** no excuse here
