The Big Journey of 1996 by Chris Minnick
Day 7: Monday, April 22 and OK, we're in Vegas now. Losing. Blah. I couldn't send this message from Arizona.
I tried and tried, couldn't connect to any thing. Sorry. It probably was a good thing,
though, cause Margaret made a one minute call to S.F. that night and it cost a whopping
$3.57. yup, it's true. we're being screwed left and right. ugh. We went to the Grand Canyon yesterday. Big Rip-off.
I'm getting awful tired of spending an arm and a leg to see holes in the ground.
Sure, it's big, but it's FILLED, absolutely filled with really ugly tourists and their
kids who are very bored. The food at the restaurant there sucked too. $10 to get
stuck in traffic and see a hole in the ground. Damn. Now for some good and happy news. We stayed in Laughlin, NV last night. It's just barely in Nevada, and supposedly
the city didn't even exist - like there was nothing there at all - in 1970. Now,
there are tons of casinos and hotels...in the middle of nowhere. NOWHERE. Very
scary. The good part is that we got a room at a big ass hotel for $17. Wow. I ended
up gambling away quite a bit of money, though, so it turned out to be a pretty expensive
night, but it was fun. Today we drove through 100 miles of nothing, very hot nothing, to Vegas. We have
a free room here for two nights. We won and lost money tonight, and came out behind.
Darn. Maybe tomorrow will be better. We're trying to win big money so that we can
put out this issue of the magazine. It'll happen. We've got tons of really nice pictures.
You'll see, soon as we can get them to a scanner. |
